This is Just Not Right (Google Rankings)

A few weeks ago I posted a note about photos from our recent nuptials. Soon after, I notice the entry getting traffic and see that Google is pointing people to it.
Then I notice that somehow, at least for now, the entry is at the #2 position in a search for wedding pictures(search results- may change). I cannot imagine how many sites there are devoted to that subject or how my site gets the #2 position.

This is telling me that there is a google-niche here that needs to be filled by someone other than me. Or maybe I’ll take up wedding photography. Either way, I’m not sure what Google is thinking.
I guess the real message here is that I need to get going on AdWords.

I've had similar concerns about PageRank lately. I actually had a friend help me try to chase down information on PageRank in an attempt to better understand it.
According to the Google toolbar, my blogs all are PR 1 or 2. However, if you search for certain terms, one of my blogs shows up in the top 10 responses. It's nice because I get more traffic than I ever expected, but at the same time it makes no sense given the low PR of those blogs.
What my friend found was that Google takes your PR, your keywords, and the actualy content of the page in question and factors them into an equation that determines your actual placement in their results.

Lee, you could sell links on that page for $100 a day! Wedding photography, pictures, etc., is a huge business on the web. I'm currently programming for a company who's main web site is a matching service for people looking for wedding photographers and the like. Because of new entries into the market, we recently spent over $14k on Google AdWords (non-existent design principles lead to a site that virtually does not exist as far as Google is concerned - that's what I'm here for though).
I've noticed that one both of my sites there is a tendency for Google to pick them on for a few weeks and keep them towards the top of their results. I had a few weeks where my personal site popped up in searches for the KKK because of a comparison I made to them and some of the current extremists out there. For awhile, I was even listed as Google's #1 SUV Hater because of a rant I wrote after nearly getting run off of the road by an SUV on my bike!
Because of my involvement with b2evolution, I get a lot of incoming links from Europe and I've noticed several times where I'll show up #1 in the various European Google search results.
I've quite trying to figure it out, at least until Google will open-source their PageRank algorithm so people can intelligently understand what's going on.

Google is becoming more and more a content publisher and content promoter, and the search service is the distribution channel. Google has the full right to make this choice. On the other hand, it is relevant to be aware of what the public is really getting if using the search service.
you should gather back links
you should gather back links with the right words. For instance, you could use wedding pictures within this blog to direct to your site. Then your site gets the right keywords from backlinking and then google knows, wow, someone used these keywords to link to your site. Then I must direct my search results to this place too...
Great!
It’s very good article. Great site with very good look and perfect information. I like it too.

Very Nice Info ...

I have seen many and many odd search results in Google over the years that I could not explain nor other webmaster had a convincing explanation to them. I think that's what Google is trying to do, they want their algo to be as mysterious as possible.
People are obsessed with
People are obsessed with finding the closest related sites when selecting link partners to link to their sites. Google is very forgiving when it comes to having links from unrelated sources. I am talking about casino or porn sites, but sites that don't fit into market niche of the target site.
As far as Page Rank goes, I wish Google would not have ever made the toolbar public with the little green bar. Google could have kept the PR algo running in the background and nobody would know or care about it.
