Exactly one year ago, we published the video below - one of our first. We had just finished a six day river trip from Chong Qing to Shanghai, China on the Yangtze River, which goes through the Three Gorges.

China is damming the Yangtze River with the Three Gorges Dam Project, the worlds largest dam. It has displaced over a million people and caused a huge and well-deserved global controversy.

At this time last year, we had just purchased the camera we use today. I decided I'd try to do a short doucmentary about the things we learned about the project and it's impact.

I admit it's a bit cheesy, but I thought you might enjoy seeing something besides a whiteboard

This second video was from the same trip and shows the beauty of the gorges leading up to the dam.

After this blast from the past...now back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Thanks

Lee,

I read with interest a great frontpage article about this today in the Wall Street Journal. Not sure if this is a coincidence but your videos were timely and I enjoyed having some images to go with the WSJ story. Thanks for sharing. Always enjoy your blog.

Coincidence

Hi Peter. I would love to claim that I made the connection with the WSJ, but it's not the case. It's the one-year anniversary of publishing the dam video. As coincidences go, this is one of the happy variety.

Nice video, they broaden my

Extinction is forever

Great video Lee, thank you. Shame about the dolphins, oh, and yes, the thousands of other unique species (insects etc) made extinct by this project which haven't had any publicity. So if the dams feed China's energy demand for a short while, that's good. If the project fails after a few decades ... extinction is for ever.

Good timing...

Thanks for the pointer to these videos from last year. WIth our upcoming trip to China it's a nice little warm up :-)
