Common Craft Kindle Books: Better on the iPhone
By leelefever on March 09, 2009 - 2:02pm
As you may have seen, Amazon recently published the Kindle for iPhone App that allows iPhone users to purchase and read Kindle books on the phone. Of course, one of the first things we did was to see how our Kindle Books look. We were excited to see that our Kindle Books are in color look better on the iPhone than on the Kindle, thanks to the nice iPhone screen.
Compared to:
Another shot of the color:

Wow, what an incredible difference!
Dang, that's such a huge difference! Being an iPhone user myself, I'm definitely wayyy impressed with the screened and obviously all of the wonderful features that come along with the iPhone. I didn't know that there was a new app released though, the iKindle.. That's wonderful news!
I think I'll go ahead and pick up the app. I'm not very familiar with any Kindle type of software readers, where do I get the books from? Are they another fee? Anyways, this all looks very fun and interesting, thanks for letting me know about the new app!
Kindle Books on IPhone
That's really cool, technology these day's. I'm sure this will be a huge benefit for alot of people.
Except it'll kill your
Except it'll kill your battery and the screen isn't as large. Also the iPhone screen may get hard to look at for lengthy periods of time due to the backlight.
Logical Question
OK, if Kindle books look better on the IPhone than on Kindle, Kindle sales are going to plummet like a stone, since everyone with an IPhone will not buy a Kindle.
Or is Amazon going to price the 'Kindle for IPhone' app at the price of Kindle?
Or is Amazon just gracefully surrendering to the inevitable?

It looks better but the
It looks better but the whole point of kindle is that, unlike most screens, it is not harmful for your eyes. They don't get tired as fast and you feel as if you were really reading a book. Putting it on iphone is kinda missing the point in my opinion. And don't forget about iPhone's short battery life.
Not available for us Brits though!
Like the post one before last and the Hulu video service, Kindle app is available for iPhone for US cutomers only! Booo! :-(
Perhaps, a demographic research focus group somewhere ruled us Brits out as being savvy enough?
or perhaps Apple are busy developing the Cut and Paste function that we've badly wanted for ages, and haven't had time for uploading the UK version. :-P
Anyhow, here is review I read yesterday regarding the usbility findings of the Kindle and the Kindle iPhone app:

This is fun and exciting!
This is definitely fun and exciting. Goodbye to reading old conventional books. Say hello to the new technology informative books!
Yes, the battery will die faster than a very fast dying thing
Saw this on my grandson's phone. Actually a very good idea as most young people today are loathe to pick up a book if there is any kind of digital alternative. Stick a mobile phone in their hands... different story
Battery life is short, but perhaps that's another good thing as it might sharpen reading skills a bit. On the other hand, plugs and chargers are never far away.
What ever happened to good old fashioned typeset print.
What about on Kindle 2?
With the first Kindle, graphically relevant material looked awful. It only had 4 grays to work with. The Kindle 2 has 16 grays and images look much, much better. Plus, if you didn't convert your source material to grays specifically for the Kindle then the Kindle 1 had terrible color to gray converting but the Kindle 2 has been upgraded with actual dithering to handle the color changes to 16 gray. I would recommend testing your books on a Kindle 2 and seeing if they are better than the comparison with the Kindle 1 - especially since anyone buying a Kindle now will be getting a Kindle 2.
Also... there is more to the Kindle than just reading books so the iPhone's app won't kill the Kindle. To be fair - the Sony readers are nicer than the Kindle in pure ebook reading and organizing function. The Kindle's plus side really comes from the wireless functions, the ease of use and the discounted books.
Yeah, it does look much easier to read on the iPhone.
That second picture makes the Kindle look kind of like some old fashioned device with the off color screen. I had thought about getting the Kindle during the holidays last year, but with technology advancing so quickly, I had a feeling in the back of my mind that something better would come along.
That was definitely amazing!
Wow! That was really great! I am glad to hear that Kindle Books are now can be read on iPhone, and indeed the graphics and color looked better on it. Now, we really have reason to be entertained well by these modern technologies. Thanks for sharing!
So Different
It was look better with i-phone but how with the another one different between i-phone and kindle
Wow I love it. If the cost
Wow I love it. If the cost of Iphone comes down a little more I'm so getting one.
Wow
That's a surprising side by side. I always assumed that the Kindle was at least 2 times bigger so it would translate into a significantly better reading experience. Guess I was wrong.
It is convenient and easy to
It is convenient and easy to use the kindle. Best when I am travelling and need some educational sources to spice up my brain!

Amazon bounces
Amazon has not been slow to understand that it is better to build on a platform already established and distributed on their "kindle." I did not understand the interest in this device design coarse. Especially hope that success helping, prices decrease a little on the iphone ...
I agree
I agree that complete customization to the I phone will hurt their sales in the long run. What percentage of people that use Kindle have I phones? I am curious how the quality is with a regular old blackberry!
