This afternoon I did the final talk for the final workshop before we leave on the trip. In a lot of ways, today marked the last of my formal work for Common Craft for a long time.
I've been thinking about the significance of not working in 2006 and I think the big difference (besides not making money) is about accountability. Quite literally, starting right at this moment, I'm not accountable to anyone in any professional sense for many months. For the next year projects, deliverables, meetings, etc. will not fill my days. I do wonder if I'll miss the work, seriously.
I can't say that it's hit me yet and I think it's the blur of the impending departure that's keeping me from sighing the big sigh of relief that one might expect. It's coming though, and the sigh will be loud and long. For now though, it's just one day at a time until we leave our home in Seattle on Sunday morning bound for New York City. That's 4 days from now.
You can see our itinerary for the next couple of months here.
