Our second client production was for the Google Docs team. For the first time, we got a chance to work on a product that we use every day. This video was timed to accompany the release of Google's new presentation product. The challenge with this video was to drive home the idea that email
attachments are a poor way of sharing digital documents. It's true.
Working with the Google Docs team was a wonderful experience - we were both impressed with their efficiency, insight and integrity.
If you'd like to share this video, you can find it on Google's You Tube account or Blip.tv.

A Double-header!
Two out of the park! Congrats on two awesome videos!
Perfect one-two punch!
Wow! Another great video and Google "PowerPoint" on the same day! If Google adds proper Opera-compatibility I think I'll faint...
Spot on!
Perfect timing! I've been asked to help several non-profits here in the UK this week alone with understanding Google Docs! You are superstars! Keep it up!
Excellent
Wow, that's just so awesome.
Well Done
Job well done. And it certainly looks like Google docs is the way to go with electronic documents!
Awesome!
I love it - so simple and so clear. Outstanding work, keep it up!
Outtakes
Are the outtakes funny? Will we ever get to see some of them?
Yes, outtakes
You know, thats a good question Ben. We have one in particular that we do want to post. We need to ask the client if it's kosher.
We didn't save many from before, but it's something we'd like to have more of in the future.
outtakes, please
You know I'll give it a YAY if you do it. I'm just wondering if, for example, Sam ever got torn in half by a flying email attachment, or if any of the characters ever get bleeped for saying a bad word, and so on.
DotSub
Excellent video as ususal! Will you be uploading to DotSub to enable translation, or does the fact that this is a client production prevent that?
Video on dotSUB now
Hi Susab,
I just loaded the video to dotSUB and wrote about it on this blog. Let's hope it gets a bunch of translations.
Thanks! Dutch translation added
Thanks Lee for getting permission to put it on dotSUB. I've added the Dutch translation to it.

Google Docs in Plain English featured on Techlife TV
I write a syndicated column, Techlife and have a TV channel Techlife TV, and just featured your video. My article was about a tip for the less savvy who use Google Docs and your video captured the point better than my writing. Nice job. I will certainly be subscribing to your blog and featuring you again soon. Maybe we could do an interview.

Very cool new tools!
Excellent! I love the moving emails, the paper clips and the thermometer. Low tech, but snazzy!
And this is so relevant for folks at my place of work right now! We've had a few folks start to use Google docs, but not everyone understood the "why" behind it. This explains it very clearly!
Cool. I have never thought
Cool. I have never thought that Google has so many opportunities
a dotSUB version would really be appreciated
Great video again!
I also want to second the comment by susab about hoping that there is going to be a dotSUB version of this video like there was for the others.
I know from the responses on my blog that people do appreciate them (at least in the Netherlands they do).
DotSub
I'm asking about DotSub now. Since this was a client production, it's not up to us.
Edited: The video has been shared on DotSub for translation.
Cool video and HOME.

So when Sam publishes the
So when Sam publishes the newsletter and decides she doesn't need the final copy and the previous versions still sitting on GoogleDocs, how does she get rid of them? Haven't you just moved all the versions, drafts, and finals from your home workspace to Google's? You may have eliminated all the duplicates, but there is still a lot of text sitting out there.
Crystal clean
Wonderful work, Common Craft! Your videos have evolved into an amazing communication platform for fun and business. I'm super impressed with your production chops, too.
Also, kudos to Google for selecting such a great upstart to help launch their new products.
Great instructional video
I have sent the link of your video to many of my technology and teacher friends. It is a great example of what an educational video can be. Clear. Understandable. Fun to watch.
Ever think about offering a workshop for teachers and students?
Very very good
I love the style and effectiveness. I'll be passing it on to those I want to convince
very cool video ))

nice video. Metaphors are always a good way to make a point or to explain new things! People will not likely forget ;)
should start using it
i have heard of google docs for a long time now, but i just never do for some reason. probably because there aren't all of the features as word.
Google Docs really works for Gastouder school project
Last week I watched the video about GoogleDocs. The video is nice, and easy to understand. But I wasn't convinced that GoogleDocs would work for me and the people I work with at our school. So I deceided to give it a try. The results? It really works as easy as it was promised! Thanks for sharing. Regards, Gastouder project
Google docs
Google docs sounds like a good idea, and I might try it sometime.
Dots & Subs
We were a bit worried about whether you could take a jargon-filled subject like software development and explain Enerjy in less than three minutes.
Google Docs on Google Video
Would it be possible to put the Google Docs video on Google Video? My district freaks out when it sees the word YouTube, but everything's good with Google.
Google Video = good. Yeah!!!!!
YouTube=bad. Boo!!!!!! (go figure)
I know how to do it, but I'm not sure if placing a client production about a Google service on Google Video violates anything.
start using it
Very nice video!
Thank you for sharing
Thank you for sharing the video. It is a great quick demonstration to get the point across. I look forward to seeing you online!
